As some of you know there is new leader at USAC, Derek Bouchard-Hall who was consistently described by attendees as a breath of fresh air.
Having never previously attend a Local Association meeting I can’t give you a compare and contrast, yet the general optimism, enthusiasm and excitement from the staff and organization was contagious. Even the most vocal critics and leaders from competing bike racing organizations were surprised at the significant change in tone from the organization.
Derek listened, he asked questions, he took notes and he addressed the many issues membership has expressed over the years which include:
- Lack of transparency
- Overspending on elite athletics
- Insurance costs
- A general lack of customer service provided by USAC to the amateur athlete, race directors, local associations and officials
- Doping at all levels in the sport

The following article posted from another attendee on cyclingnews.com relays many of the nuances that should give us all hope that USA Cycling has the right leader in place to address the obstacles facing our sport across the country:
