Updated WSBA Race Calendar

1/14/2015

We’ve just launched a new WSBA calendar format on WSBARacing.org which includes as many of the competitive cycling events in our region as we could identify. Also with this update there are now direct links to an event’s website or flyer.

Events that do not have direct links are events that are not yet permitted or do not have websites locations for us to link to.

If you are a promoter of one of these non-linked events, please email me when the permit and/or website is available so we can update your event on the WSBA calendar.

A huge thank you to Richard Bankhead & Russell Stevenson for helping to identify all the events and figuring out the technology to create this more robust WSBA calendar.

Looking for WSBA Championship Events

1/12/2015

If you’d like your event to be considered for a WSBA Championship designation in 2015, please email me (gkavesh@gmail.com) the name of your event and which championship you’d like to be considered for.

Please review the categories listed below to confirm that your event schedule has the ability to handle these groupings.

Road & Criterium Championship Races are needed for Senior, Junior & Master categories.

The preference is to include as many "unique" categories in the race schedule as possible.  However, the reality is that some fields will need to be combined.  They must be scored separately as listed below.

Senior Championship Events need to include these categories:

Men -1/2, 3, 4
Women 1/2, 3, 4

Master Championships need to include these categories

Master Men 30-39 Cat 1/2/3
Master Men 30-39 Cat 4/5
Master Men 40-49 Cat 1/2/3
Master Men 40-49 Cat 4/5
Master Men 50-59 All Cats
Master Men 60+ All Cats

Master Women 30-39 Cat 1/2/3
Master Women 30-39 Cat 4
Master Women 40+ Cat 1/2/3
Master Women 40+ Cat 4

Junior Championships need to include these categories

Junior A: age 17 - 18 M/W
Junior B: age 15 - 16 M/W
Junior C: age 13 - 14 M/W
Junior D: age 10 - 12 M/W

Officials Class January 31st, 2015

1/11/2015

Bike racing doesn’t readily happen without officials present and we need more folks willing/interested in giving back to the sport to support the WSBA race calendar.

Once you are a licensed official, the WSBA will reimburse you for the cost of your first annual officials license (or the add-on fee if you’re also a licensed racer) and we will reimburse you the cost of one USAC official’s shirt after you’ve worked two race assignments.

Teams:  Please consider sending 1 or 2 folks to this class so that you can tap into their skill set for your own team races while also having some ‘rulebook’ expertise available on your team to answer the numerous questions that come up during the year/season.

Please email Al Cronin at aloysius.cronin@gmail.com to reserve your class space.

Class Details:
January 31st, 2015
Redmond REI Community Room – 2nd Floor
7500 166th Avenue Northeast, Redmond, WA 98052
Time: 9am-5pm

Town Hall Membership Meeting

WSBA Town Hall meeting
Sunday, February 15, 2015
Redmond REI Community Room – 2nd Floor
7500 166th Avenue Northeast, Redmond, WA 98052
Time: 3pm-5pm

At the annual meeting in December, there were a number of conversations/questions about race calendars, what the WSBA can do to assist/support racing (all disciplines) in the region, and other assorted topics that we weren’t able to fully address/discuss. As promised at that meeting, a follow up has been scheduled solely focused on getting input from the membership on these and any other topics we can address in a 2 hour window.

We hope to see a full room of members, race directors, and officials to help us focus on improving competitive cycling opportunities in our region. East region, North Sound, and South Sound folks: your Board representatives are working to create similar opportunities closer to your locations. Stay tuned for these dates/locations.

Cyclocross Upgrades

1/6/2015

WSBA Members,

In recent months the WSBA has considered participation in unsanctioned cyclocross races for category upgrade eligibility.  However, in order to balance our USAC obligations and to clearly communicate what events are eligible for upgrades the WSBA Board has determined that category upgrades shall be processed in accordance with the published USAC upgrade guidelines and the USAC Rulebook. Both state that upgrade points earned in unsanctioned races are not eligible to be utilized for USAC category upgrades.

Effective February 1, 2015, the WSBA Upgrade Coordinators will not consider unsanctioned cyclocross races as part of the upgrade process.

Individuals who submit an upgrade and are denied by a WSBA Upgrade Coordinator may appeal this decision directly to the USAC membership group and/or USAC Regional Coordinator. Contact information for this appeal process will be included upon notification of the upgrade denial.

Rider upgrade rules and regulations can be found in the USAC Rulebook Section 1E.
https://www.usacycling.org/usa-cycling-rule-book.htm

Additionally the USAC has published upgrade guidelines which can be found at:
https://www.usacycling.org/category-upgrade-information.htm
