2013 Völkl Category 4 Women's Race Series
Eight events on the 2013 Washington calendar are included in this year's Völkl Cat 4 Women's Race Series (subject to change):
March 30: Independence Valley Road Race
April 14: Volunteer Park Criterium
April 27: Olympic View Road Race
May 11: Ravensdale Road Race
June 8: Second Ascent Ballard Criterium
June 15: Skagit Time Trial
July 28: Georgetown Criterium
August 17: Cascade Circuit Race #3 at Carnation
Points are awarded to the top 15 finishers in the cat 4 women's race at each event, plus series participants can accumulate points by finishing each WSBA race through the year (February 23-August 17, 2013). Consistent participation is at least as important as top finishes. Generous prizes from series sponsors are anticipated for the top 15 women in the overall standings at the end of the race season.
New for 2013! Mid-series prizes for the top 3 in the points standings on May 12 (after points added in for Ravensdale Road Race).
To compete in this series, riders must complete a minimum of two of the races listed above. Most cat 4 races have a field size limit of 75 riders; consider preregistration where it is an option.
More details about the races, including race flyers and promoter contact information, are found in the WSBA Event Calendar.
For more information about the series, such as points earned for race placings, consult the Frequently Asked Questions.
Our very generous sponsors continue to support this series for 2013:

SmartWool | Starbucks | Voler
2013 Beginner Women's Race Series
A series of three races for truly beginner women (self-selected) is planned for the early 2013 racing season. This series is part of a larger initiative at USA Cycling to expand categories for women's racing. There are no prizes or points from these events, but they offer a chance for beginning racers to race with their peers. Beginner women's races are tentatively scheduled at these events:
March 16: Tour de Dung #1 (Sequim)
March 23: Tour de Dung #2 (Sequim)
April 6: North Bend Criterium
In order to run the beginner women's races, a minimum of 20 riders must preregister for both the beginner AND cat 4 women's races. These beginning women's events will be "mentored racing," with elite racers riding along and giving post-race analysis.
New racers should consult the race flyers linked above for complete information about license requirements (one-day licenses may be purchased at each event), race number rental or purchase, and links to online preregistration.
Watch for updates here about this new category.
